Break in the Fence
"Break in the Fence" 6" x 6" Oil on Gessobord |
Another picturesque view north of Taos. An old broken down fence, the rabbit brush overtaking the area.
In my quest to loosen up my paintings I've been starting them with the
palette knife, then working some areas with a brush. Seems to be
helping.
I'm also working on keeping the background pushed back with value and little detail, softer edges. Then pushing the chroma up front, adding texture to the strokes.
Seems to be helping. Hardest part is stopping. Arghh

Red Roofed Shack
"Red Roofed Shack" 8" x 10" Oil on Oil Primed Linen Panel |
A small scene right outside of Taos. Very peaceful setting with luscious green trees surrounding the area. There was actually a lot going on besides what is portrayed.
Lots of tall weedy grass and red bellied black birds balancing on the grass. I chose to eliminate. Glad I did.

Poppy Red
"Poppy Red" 6" x 6" Oil on Gessobord |
Red Poppies, a flower I chose to represent myself in Girl Scouts so long ago. Remains to be one of my favorite flowers. With this green background those reds and oranges just pop off the painting. Painted from a photo on PMP, Suzanne Johnson.

Pines Early Evening View
"Pines Early Evening View" 6" x 6" Oil on Gessobord |
I've got a timeshare near Winter Park, CO. Although my view has condos 360 there are also mountain views directly behind those condos, 360. On my deck, I can watch the sunset light up the mountains to the east.
On this evening, the pink clouds reflected on the snow on the top of the mountain. The warm yellow light of the setting sun reflected on the snow on the lower mountain and facing buildings. To top it off, storm clouds receding with the blue sky opening up for the finality of the day.

White Sprinkles
"White Sprinkles" 9" x 12" Oil on Oil Primed Linen Board |
Thanks to my awesome daughter Nicole, for volunteering to take her little sister, Violet, to spend the night,
I was able to get out Sunday for a great morning of painting. My intention was to drive into the mountains but on my way, close to home, this scene caught my eye. White flowers everywhere leading you up the hills. So much green, bright fresh green everywhere.
Here are some progress shots:

Glorious in LaVeta
"Glorious in LaVeta" 6" x 8" Oil on Oil Primed Linen Board |
This picture of the painting is showing the reds much more saturated then what is really there.
Still experimenting with a start of a value study then adding color.
